I went to London: Custom Cards

I judge a really cute outfit by how badly I want to doodle it. The doodability factor also applies to purses, haircuts, shoes, inanimate objects-whatever strikes the old inspiration chord.

A co-worker of mine just returned from London. She went to the Cath Kidston store while traveling abroad {be still my heart--I cannot imagine how pretty this place is!} and came back with this.

She modeled her bag for us, shared her tales, and my "inspired chord" was struck.
She was my doodle subject for the evening.

She's mentioned more than once that she'd like a copy of her doodle so I got to work.

I turned her doodle into a little gift.

A few little note cards packaged in a clever envelope made just for greeting cards--I'm sharing, don't you worry.

The "envelope" tutorial is right here. Thank you, Nicole!

And just in case you don't have any time to doodle, I've created a download for Meg's card that you can just print on cardstock and cut.

{You may use for personal use only...Art karma. It's really a bitch.}

I hear Cath's website calling my name.

A New Card...

Haven't created a card since Rachael's graduation card-it's easier to make one when there is an intended recipient. There isn't one for this one today (the operative word here) but married women, or just women in general, everywhere will smile. (Or those with a sense of humor will.)

My daily commute I spend thinking, singing, or listening-not necessarily in this order but this card (or something like it) came to me and I had to write it down. See a later post for the real thing.

I love cards that are made for "un-Hallmark" occassions. For example, Paper Stories has a great line called "Bittersweet"-I have the set but have yet to use them. Such a waste of good card stock. Notice I never said I didn't want to use them. (Love you, big mister:)

Anyways, the foo-foo card to the left..The line inside (censor alert here):

"What a crock of shit, huh?"

Call it a break-up, a divorce, a full moon that causes the argument over how many m&m's you should or shouldn't eat. It's life and it's pretty funny sometimes.

The Anti-Valentine

I've realized that my husband and I have this odd ability to throw out analogies when we are discussing our lives together. He's an "anti Holiday gift giver" and believes that a calendar holiday is not a good enough reason to give someone a present. (This is ironic since I aspire to own a little gift boutique and he hates everything do to do with presents. Then you wonder why this little endeavor is taking me so long-can you say lack of support?) With this being said, you can obviously guess what I got for Valentines day? Zero. Zip. Nada. I have his love and that should be enough, right?

As I reminded him on Tuesday to the upcoming holiday, we had our usual sarcastic discussion in regards to love and marriage. His analogy (without going into details; partially because I can't even remember them) was that the grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but how much maintenance did it take to get it that way? He said he likes his side, a few brown brown spots, a little dog poop, but he knows how to clean it up and get it in shape again. I think this was his twisted way of telling me that indeed, he wouldn't trade me in any time soon.

Which inspired me to write down a few thoughts of my own and create some anti-love cards.

This is one version-printed with my little Gocco machine. The verse "Love may make the world go round-so do ferris wheels. Like anything that makes you spin, the probability of puking greatly increases the longer you are on it." I have a friend who is going through a divorce and came up with "Sometimes it is necessary to burn bridges in order to be free." No card yet, but the thought is there.

Life Lesson: If you can be inspired by someone, then it's probably love.
